TESCO in GliwicePanattoni ( 2010-04-22 )
Breakthrough Contract
Panattoni beat another record on the industrial real estate market. After contracts concluded with H&M and Leroy Merlin, Panattoni has acquired another huge BTS contract, to be executed for an industrial leader. The developer will build the biggest warehouse in Poland for the Tesco chain, covering 57 000 m2 of warehouse space. The BTS project for Tesco is the largest contract on the real estate market in Poland illustrating the professional and dynamic nature of BTS projects executed by Panattoni - said Robert Dobrzycki, CEE Managing Partner.
The choice of the developer depended on several key factors: strategic location in Gliwice, adapting the design of the warehouse to our expectations and short-term horizon of delivering the investment. Panattoni met all the three criteria, showing professionalism and flexibility, fit of an expert in its field – said Wojciech Zabiłowicz, Distribution Manager at Tesco Polska. The warehouse in Gliwice will constitute a distribution center for the chain, responsible for delivering supplies to Tesco shops in the south of Poland. The facility will measure 400x27 m; it will have a cold storage covering 13,800m2 and three offices extending beyond the building. - The project in Gliwice foresees many environment-friendly, power-saving solutions. Lower usage of energy translates into lower CO2 emissions, which is a priority for us and Tesco – commented Bartłomiej Krawiecki, Partner at Panattoni Europe. The sunlight will also pour in through a glass roof, which will cover 15% of the roof’s surface. The non-standard autodocks, with expansive roofing, ensure reloading comfort and product safety.
More than 1,000 people will be hired in the warehouse. 300 people will be working every shift! The center will be operational around the clock, three 8-hour shifts. The developer will also ensure high infrastructure road standards around the facility, the warehouse will be surrounded by a concrete block, like in airports. An expansive parking lot will fit 440 cars, 80 semitrailers and 36 trucks. The facility will have its own gas station, service station and washing stand for trailers. The investment will be finalized and handed over as early as by the end of 2010.
Exceptional Location
The Tesco distribution center will not only be in the center of the Silesian agglomeration, but also in the logistic heart of Europe. The facility will be situated in the vicinity of the Gliwice-Sośnica communication node, which joins two trans-European corridors, running across Europe. The node envisions international traffic movement in four directions (north, south, east and west) and domestic traffic in six (additionally north-west and south-east). At the moment the node enables travelling to Berlin, Dresden, Lvov, Ostrava, Prague and Vienna. In the future it will be also possible to travel to Helsinki and Stockholm.
