Schweitzer-Mauduit, the largest global supplier of high quality tobacco papers has signed a lease agreement for 6,800 sq m of production and warehouse space within SEGRO’s Tulipan Park Strykow. In the autumn the company will launch its first plant in Poland.

Schweitzer-Mauduit operates in over 90 countries worldwide and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The new facility in Tulipan Park Strykow, is dedicated for a technological innovative production of fine papers to the tobacco industry, namely special low combustible cigarette wrappers reducing the fire risk. Since the decision by the EU Commission that all cigarettes sold throughout the European Union have to be covered with fire-retardant paper by 2011, the Strykow plant of Schweitzer-Mauduit will soon become one of the company’s crucial investments in the region. The new plant in Strykow will employ nearly 100 people and is located within special economic zone area. The Schweitzer-Mauduit direct investment totals almost 90 million zlotys.

Mr Waldemar Witczak, Regional Manager at SEGRO is satisfied with the transaction: “We are delighted that Schweitzer-Mauduit selected SEGRO for their first investment in Poland. Our expertise in adjusting the space to specific requirements of production plants and close co-operation with the Lodz Special Economic Zone played important role in facilitating this deal.”

Tulipan Park Strykow is SEGRO’s largest Park in Central Europe. Located in central Poland, directly at the A2 motorway and close to the future junction of A1 (north-south) and A2 (east-west) motorways, it is to provide up to 400,000 sq m of modern warehouse, light production and office space. The great advantage of SEGRO’s logistic park in Strykow is its excellent location in one of the most dynamically developing economic areas in Poland. An investment partially situated within Lodz Special Economic Zone provides numerous benefits to entrepreneurs from all branches.
